Watery February Walk

Friday morning we had freezing rain again!

Fortunately, it only lasted for a few hours.
Since then we've had some snow flurries, and LOTS of rain.  Today, however, looks to be mild so let's go outside.

The rain just let up so the ditches are overflowing...

...down into our season creek.  This is the smallest of the three and right now it looks pretty impressive.

This stack of rocks marks the entrance to a neighbor's driveway.

Good weather for licorice ferns...

...and moss.

The Big Creek has almost reached the top of its banks.
This area was filling with the high chatter of Golden-crowned Kinglets. I think there were well over a dozen birds flitting about.

The Quarry Pond is full to the brim.

Another photo of the Big Creek - running fast and muddy.

I've probably bored everyone with blogging about the damaged caused by our snow and freezing rain, but my goodness - look at this poor tree!

This is the swampiest spot on our property.  It was heavily damaged by someone riding a motorcycle or ATV last summer.  I'm hoping that it is recovering.

Great gobs of green moss atop an old fence post.

More licorice ferns.

The Big Creek as it flows near our driveway.

Dorothy's Creek.

Here's what it looked like last week.

Here's what it looks like now!

Great series of shots! I really LOVE the moss on the stump... looks so soft, and kind of like a mushroom! It is amazing how quickly the water flows change! Hugs!

Ferns and moss--so beautiful! My favorite color has always been green! Those are such a pure, bright color! That's one thing about living in the South in the Spring...our green outdoors is so beautiful! Yours is, too!

Our NW woods are even beautiful in the winter with ice and snow. All our ponds are full too. Snow has melted now we have wind and rain.
