All the adult male Black-headed Grosbeaks appear to have left the area.

Now all I'm seeing, and not very many at that, are females / immature birds.

Like this one.

And this one.

Still doing the grosbeak thing and cracking black oil sunflower shells with their strong beaks.

This is a stitch my Mom completed. As many folks go to the coast in August, it's a perfect design to feature today. 

 Lately there been several White-breasted Nuthatches yelling and scolding.

They've not yet come to the feeders.

But they're in the trees nearby.

Typical Nuthatch pose.

And walking down the tree.

Which they are wont to do.

The flowers were a bit of a challenge, but in looking at this stitch, I am still very pleased with it.

The Violet-green Swallows continue to show interest in a couple of the nesting boxes.

How do you tell males from females?

Females have a lighter, slate-colored head.

Like this gal.

And her on the bottom and the right you can see two males.

They have darker, almost black heads. 

They are social and are often in groups.

And here's a pretty female.
