Other Great Autumn Birds

Design - "Halloween Pin Garden" (kit)
Designer - Raise the Roof
Fabric - 32 count Summer Khaki Lugana
Fibers - Au Ver a Soie
Started - 22 October 2010
Completed - 24 October 2010

 Some of autumn's rewards:

I'm seeing and hearing Ruby-crowned Kinglets regularly.
They are difficult to photograph as they flit around and are rarely stationary.

The Bewick's Wren likes suet and is easier to photograph.

Love, love, love the striped tail feathers.

Suet consumption!

Nuthatches

Design - "Happy Halloween"
Designer - Bent Creek
Fabric - Aida
Fibers - WDW & DMC

This is another of my Mom's stitches.  She had it 98.6% completed.  I added some French knot eyes and long stitch nose and whiskers.  And ta-da!  It's done!

I had a couple of Red-breasted Nuthatches arrive at the same time.

Here is #1

And here is #2

Fun to watch their upside down antics.

Bears

Design - "Hiss"
Chart - "Eek Boo Hiss"
Designer - Lizzie Kate
Fabric - 30 count Chestnut linen
Fibers - GAST & WDW - 2 strands over 2 threads
Started - 28 October 2011
Completed - 31 October 2011

Earlier this month a bear tore through our deer fence (front yard). The bear pulled over my basic set up and all the feeders on it. Then climbed on the front porch and took down all the feeders hanging there. I am fortunate that only a couple of feeders were damaged. My Dad discovered that the electric fence component had shorted out making it easier / safer for the ear's incursion.

I had stopped feeding in the backyard, and as soon as I restarted, this happened.

He took down a couple of feeders and feasted.

I've waited over a week and have now restarted in a small way in the back.
My Dad re[aired all the torn wires on the deer fence and it is electrified once again.
I still have more work to do before the front feeders are operational again.

This time just one bird.

But that's enough to celebrate.
