Wednesday's Walk

ROSES ROSES ROSES!

Even with extreme temperatures this past weekend, my sister's roses are the stars in this flowerbed.  Enjoy!

Picture Perfect!

Also has to feature this amazing Kniphofia. It has over thirty bloom stalks and has fast become a favorite of the hummingbirds.

And I'll end with this striking combination of two Oregon wildflowers - Blleding Heart and Columbine.

California Scrub Jay

My weird bird!  Looks like a young Band-tailed Pigeon, but just 2/3 the size and no ring on the neck.

California Quail

Calling out a challenge.

American Goldfinch male

Hope you have a bright and cheerful day!

Youngsters

Working a bit on this cross stitch.
Just one more violet leaf and I'm done!

There are several Hairy Woodpecker youngsters.

If you look closely there are three birds.
One on the left side of the left post, one atop the third post, and the last bird eating suet on the right.

Here's one of the young birds with a bit of red atop its head.

This is another young birds - LOTS of red on its head!

Youngster on the left, Dad on the right.

Time to eat!

Each summer the adult woodpeckers appear to take the young ones on a Suet Tour - to show them easy access to a hardy meal.

Sunday's Hummers

Slowly, but surely  few more hummingbirds are showing up.

Here's a young Anna's with bill yellow with pollen.

And here's a young Rufous. The verbena bonariensis is a favorite even though the blossom are tiny, tiny, tiny.

Saturday's Critters

A good array of critters this Saturday.

Chester Chipmunk

Gary Gray Squirrel

On Tuesday morning during breakfast...

...we got to watch a bobcat stroll by.

Then again at 7:48pm while I was reading on the back patio, a Steller's Jay squawked in alarm.

When I looked up, this bobcat was jogging rapidly across the yard.

Tuesday night one of the juvenile Great Horned Owls came in close.

I was able to find him silhouetted in the twilight.

During the day there's lots of Acorn Woodpecker activity!

Look!  Three birds!

Here they are again.
One up high and two down low sharing a branch.

Female and male.

Both mature birds with red/pink eyes.

And here's the other male with blue eyes - a young bird.
