Wednesday's Halloween Walk

It's Halloween. We should appreciate cobwebs.

These two Big Leaf Maples are glorious.

This one is done for the year - look at all of those seeds!

It's a good year for Douglas fir cones too.

More color.

Native oaks.

A large oak.

Oak leaves.

Oak galls.

Color on the banks of the Big Creek.

More color.

Willow.

Cottonwood.

Rose hips.

Wild honeysuckle.

Madrone.

Snowberries.

The last of the blackberries.

What has happened to our pumpkins?
Large furry vandals I'm betting.
The trail camera reveal is this weekend.

I still have Goldfinches. Often they have left by the end of November.

This one is hanging out with a male House Finch.
I have a couple of pairs of House Finches and will see them all winter.

These two characters will spend the winter as well.
Female Hairy Woodpecker and Steller's Jay.

Good Morning!

I have just two small star motifs to stitch and this will be done, done done!
I've challenged myself to get it finished this week.

Robins are often the birds we first hear greeting the morning.

In this case, the bird was active in the late afternoon.

There were five or six birds,

...but this one gave me the best looks.

Sunday's Hummers

It's a gray day with some much needed rain.
The hummers will serve to provide a pop of color.

I have at least three birds remaining.

We'll call this Bird #1.

There's a bit of color on the throat.

Here's Bird #2.

The throat is color-free.

And Bird #3.

Instantly recognizable  as an adult male Anna's.

Sometimes he looks dark...

...then a bit brighter.

And bright as can be!

We are bright-eyed and bushy-tailed.

Dainty eater.

Into the mouth...

Munch munch.

There's plenty for everyone.

Friday's Framed Finish

Design - "On Seas of Blue"
Pamphlet- "Noah and Company"
Designer - Alma Lynne Designs
Fabric - 32 count raw linen
Fibers - DMC 2 strands over 2 threads

I fiddled with this design quite a bit personalizing it to my tastes. I changed one band to a rainbow and added the blue borders between the bands.

Framed - September 2018

I'm pleased with the frame and am glad this finish made it to my To Be Framed List.

It's Pumpkin Time

"Jack-O-Lantern Sampler"
Designer - Curtis Boehringer
Chart - Jack-O-Lantern Sampler
Fabric - 32 count Raw Belfast linen
Started - 19 August 1997
Completed - 1 September 1997

Speaking of pumpkins - here's a teaser!  The two pumpkins we set out for the bears have beenmoved and torn open.  We should have some interesting trail camera photos to share when the month ends.

Even has October comes to an end, there is still movement in the bird world.

I happened on some Canada Geese in flight.

Off they go.

I wish this Cooper's Hawk would fly south.
He got a bird today - I think it was either a quail or mourning dove based on the feathers scattered about.

"Groak" goes my Raven.

Blue sky, blue California Scrub Jay.
