Friday's Framed Finish

Design - "Bee Happy or Bee Quiet"
Designer - Amy Bruecken Designs
Fabric - 30 count WDW Straw linen
Fibers - GAST & WDW - 2 strands over 2 threads
Started - 10 June 2016
Completed - 25 June 2016

I changed this design a bit.  I omitted the section that said 'Or Bee Quiet"
and brought up the bottom border. As Krayola Kris noted these are wingless bees. I figure maybe they are big fat bees with their wings tucked in.

Framed - September 2018
I really like to mint green frame.

Back to the Archives

Design - "Happy Gobble Gobble Day"
Designer - The Trilogy
Fabric - 32 count Lambswool line
Fibers - WDW & GAST - 2 strands over 2 threads
Started - 29 November 2012
Completed - 27 December 2012

I've posted more archival finishes than normal in November.  My stitching mojo has temporarily left me. I hope to do better in December.

Sometimes, in the winter especially, you see the same birds over and over again.

Male California Quail - no biggy...

Same with this young female California Quail.

But this, this is interesting!

Why? Because the quail are eating suet - something I've never observed before.

One of the owners of my local WBU store is a retired ornithologist and he's very excited about seeing photos of this behavior.

Wednesday's Wet Walk

We'll be dodging rain showers today.

This is perfect weather for the new Licorice ferns to grow.

Aren't they pretty delicate little things?

There's still a bit of color...

...though most trees, like this oak have lost their leaves...

...and are now festooned with mosses.

We've had enough rain that the Big Creek has begun to flow again.

Nootka Rose leaves.

The bright red of Osier Dogwood stems.

Cottonwood.

Raindrops on Douglas fir...

...more of the same.

Droplets on Pine.

Lots of moisture = mushrooms!

Bigger Birds

I was able to stitch a bit on my titmouse at a basketball game last night.

At home and around town I've been keeping an eye on Big Birds.

Both Ravens dropped by.
Raven #1.

Rave #2.
They each needed their own tree to perch upon.

It was a wet and windy day - the Cooper's Hawk was less than thrilled.

A field in town hosted a flock of Cackling Geese.

These geese look like Canada Geese, but have much shorter necks and are a bit smaller.

They summer in the far north, and then come south to winter here.

Design - "Turkey Sampler"
Chart - "Thanksgiving Trio"
Designer - Twisted Threads
Fabric - 28 count Light Mocha Cashel
Fibers - WDW - 2 strands over 2 threads
Started - 24 November 2014
Completed - 27 November 2014

I like the simplicity of this design. It uses just three colors of WDW. The turkey reminds me of those featured on the Thanksgiving platter.

It has been quiet in Birdland.
A few Lesser Goldfinches.

Lots of Juncos.

A Downy Woodpecker.

California Scrub Jay.

Red-Shafted Northern Flicker.

Sunday's Hummers

I counted three hummers this morning.

But I was only able to get photos of one.

A young male.

He was jealously guarding the feeders.
From afar...

...and up close.

He is a pretty bird.

Saturday's Handsome Guy

He's limping a bit, but seems better than earlier in the week.
