First of the season male Black-headed Grosbeak.

I've been hearing them singing for a few days.

Then on Friday, the first bird.

Saturday morning I saw three guys and one gal.

They are one of my favorite summer visitors.

It's a Pine Siskin Winter in Oregon.

I have a decent sized flock of birds.

Yellow wingbars and sharp bills. 

They hang out together in the trees awaiting a turn at the feeders.

It continues to be cold and foggy.

It's a male Hairy Woodpecker.

Love him some suet.

Perched sitting on the 2"x4" with the strong tail feathers for balance.

I like it very much - stitched it on a rough rustic linen that I think works well. I tweaked the piece a little bit - decided to outline the tail and both ears though it was not charted that way, and changed the color of the whisker.

I've counted between 6-8 Violet Green Swallows.

And they are just beginning to scope out housing options.
