Still Around

Design - The Peacock Pocket
Designer - HandWork Primitives
Fabric - 26 count Golden Flax linen
Started - 15 March 2010
Completed - 25 March 2010

I've been pleased that this spring the Evening Grosbeaks continue to hang around.

This small group included three males and one female.

Here's a male.

And here's the female.

Two guys and a gal.

A happy couple.

All four birds.

Saturday's Neato Critters

So starting out with a totally new to me critter!

A Long-tailed Weasel

It is very small - but fierce - has been known to take on a rabbit.

The gap between the path and the fence is only about 3" to give you an idea of size.

The close by chipmunk appeared unfazed.

Gray Squirrel

And for the first time in a long time - a Brush Rabbit.

Blue Sky Birds

Design - "Western Scrub Jay"
Chart - "The Bird Collection" Part 3
Designer - Heartstring Samplery
Fabric - 32 count Wren Picture This Plus linen
Fibers - GAST - 2 strands over 2 threads
Started - 14 September 2017
Completed - 4 October 2017

The 'official' name of this bird changed from the time Beth Twist published her design to the time I stitched it. I charted out the 'new' name California Scrub Jay and that's what I stitched.

Framed - September 2018

For the first time this year, I had a small flock (12-14) of Cedar Waxwings fly in.

Yellow-tipped tail feathers and crazy crest!

I call them Frowning Birds

This trio looks like punk rock band members.

One bird

A pair

A trio

Another sighting of multiple birds atop a Douglas fir tree

I like the juxtaposition of birds and new cones.

Hope you too are having a Blue Sky Day.

Banana Bird

Design - "Western Tanager"
Chart - "The Bird Collection - Part II"
Designer - Heartstring Samplery
Fabric - 30 count Picture This Plus Wren linen
Fibers - GAST - 2 strands over 2 threads
Started - 9 September 2016
Completed - 17 September 2016

Framed - October 2017

I got to see another Western Tanager!

A more knowledgeable birder suggested that this was either a young male or an old female because of the trace of red on the face.

And it was bright, bright yellow.

Thus my nickname - Banana Bird.

I had to take the photos through a window so they are not a clear as I might like, but I did not want to open a door and take a chance on startling the bird.

What a gift to be able to watch and enjoy this lovely summer migrant.
