This is something I stitched quite some time ago. It still charms and amuses me...maybe it is a candidate for framing in 2016.
It's been another good week in Woodpecker Land
The Sapsuckers have been busy.
They have such gloriously red heads.
Do you ever feel like...
...pounding your head against something?
I've not seen much of my small Downy Woodpeckers.
The Hairy Woodpeckers and the Flickers though have been quite active.
A female Hairy constructing a new hole.
Construction in hungry work!
She is now used to me and does not fly away when I approach the feeders.
And finally, here's proof that I do have a male Hairy Woodpecker.
Now my goal is to snap a photo of the pair at the feeders.
I found a Flicker tail faether.
Are you missing one?
I've not seen a a female Acorn Woodpecker for a couple of weeks now. Thank goodness a male comes by several times a day for very short visits or I'd worry that they'd decided to move elsewhere.
He's b a c k !
And busy creating some pretty large cavities.
He is a male Pileated Woodpecker.
Note the red on the head goes all the way from the back to the beak, and also the red mustache. Both are signs of a male.
I do enjoy visits.
Thanks for stopping by Big Bird!

And So The Fourth always makes me smile. :)
What an interesting tail feather!
What a cute patriotic project! The wood pecker shots are great. Glad to hear the big guy is back!
Beth, your patriotic sheep just make me smile...and my smile just kept getting bigger with so many of my favourite birds!! One day I hope to see a pileated woodpecker. He is such a handsome fellow!
We have enjoyed the baby downy woodpeckers but did not see any baby hairy woodpeckers despite having a male and female at the feeders.
Great post! Love the sheep and love the woodpeckers!
I had to stop and look and look at your finish... interesting... Nicely stitched as always! What great pictures! You got some great shots of the Pileated... wow! And the one with the Downy--he is 'fluffy' as is the tree he is on! They match!
