Design - "Hooray for the USA"
Designer - Lizzie Kate
Fabric - 30 count R & R Americana Blend
Fibers -GAST& WDW - 2 strands over 2 threads
Started - 30 June 2015
Completed - 4 July 2015
This design uses a color of linen that R & R no longer produces. Luckily, I had a small piece of Americana in my stash! Sometimes it pays to hoard.
The Quail family that I see most often now is presided over by a widower.
Daddy Quail is most often found perched upon high...
...watching over his family.
Aren't these just the cutest things?
At this stage they peep softly just as chicks do.
Can you see their tiny top knots?
It is almost impossible for me to get an accurate count, but I think he has between 20-24 chicks under his care.
Over the weekend these babies flew the coop.
And this house also emptied out.
As of Sunday evening this house was still occupied.
As you can see the parents are supplying tasty treats!
And this house is on a totally different schedule. They've just finished their nest and are now sitting on the eggs.
Now that four of the houses are vacant though, it is so much quieter. There is still some Swallow activity in the morning and evening, but not nearly what I was seeing when eight parents were swooping in to feed their youngsters.

Beautiful pictures! You've been so busy with your stitching too.
The young quail are just precious!
Oooohhh they are cute!!!!
Quail are such handsome birds! Your photos are wonderful, Beth.
Cute patriotic finish, too :)
Woa! That is A LOT of baby quail chicks to look after!!
Babies are so adorable! I feel badly for Father Quail - mother nature is often harsh. We have had a hawk landing in the big tree in our backyard. I scare him off when I see him but unfortunately, I am often not home...
Happy belated 4th of July Beth!
That IS a lot of baby quails to look after!!! Yikes! I have stopped patriotic stitching right now, but then I see your finishes and.... (By the way, R & R Americana Blend is not out of production forever, but if there is none readily available, they have to wait till they get enough orders to dye five yards at a time. You can give them your order and they will contact you when they dye it. It could take a while, just depends on supply and demand!)
I always love seeing the quail families! I bet those baby birds just got too hot and decided to fly away! Great patriotic piece.
Such beautiful photos of the quails. That daddy quail is a wonderful daddy to look after all the chicks. The chicks are amazing.
Love your sweet finish. love Annette
Baby quail are so adorable!
Great photos of the Violet-Green Swallows, too!
Happy Wild Bird Wednesday!
These are all wonderful photographs of the young bird and the adult quail is a beautiful bird. I am wondering why a widower bird is looking after so many chicks. Did Mrs quail die? Where are all the other adult Quails? Anyway he seems to be doing a grand job.
I love the Quail and family. Great series of birds and images.
The Quails look great, especially the young ones.
Now this was a win win for me, and you gave me some of my first morning smiles. Oh My Goodness I adore Quails and long to see them close up and then Swallows, they are just one of the most amazing birds and I adore them all~
Papa Quail certainly is handsome! Sorry to hear he lost his mate. Those quail babies look like an absolute swarm when they're all together. Kudos to you if you're able to count them, lol! How fun that you have so much nesting going on. Have a great week!
love the baby quails and their exotic hairdo
Wonderful quail! What adorable babies. I didn't get any closeups of Gambel's Quail babies this time! Love the swallow as well.
Violet-green Swallows are my all-time favorite swallow!
Your pics are just amazing. Love the quail pics and the pics of the birds in the birdhouses. Poor papa quail. What happened to his missus?
