Let it Snow...then let it freeze.  That's what it did this past weekend.
So glad we darted out on Friday to stock up for meals and such because we did not go anywhere Saturday or Sunday.

Saturday we got more snow than forecast...

Something like 4" which broke a record for January 7th.

It certainly refreshed things...

...and let me see who had been out and about.

But then...late Saturday...

...and all day Sunday the weather changed over to freezing rain (again!).

Pretty but oh so dangerous.

At one point travel on Interstate 5 required chains or traction devises from the Lane / Douglas county border north to Wilsonville (just south of Portland).

So we stayed inside where it was safe and warm.

There were reports of unusual birds at the feeders during the bad weather.

Not me.  I had a gazillion Starling and my usuals like this Song Sparrow and Golden-crowned Sparrow. I could title this "Misery Loves Company".

The puff ball quail managed okay.

They navigate through the snow like professionals!

The hummers grump, but they too soldier through.

I keep watch to make sure the feeders don't freeze or have an icy build up.

Juncos are troopers...

...as are the Towhees...

...and the House Finches.

I tossed out some food for the ground feeders early Sunday morning, but the actual hanging feeders desperately need to be refilled.  I'll have to see what Monday morning brings. I'm not going to risk breaking a bone navigating a skating rink to get to them.

Oh dear. Your weather has been frightful! I hope you kept your power this time at least. Poor birds too. Brrrr!

Keep warm my friend. We get the snow and freezing rain tonight and tomorrow.

I sure hope this is ALL the bad weather we all get this winter. It's certainly been a lot, and enough! Yes, there have been 'unusual' birds visiting my feeders for sure! Yesterday the winners were two Field Sparrows. Just saw one again this morning, up in a tree. And so far, the winner for today is a Brown Thrasher...but he did not stay long at all! Just got a quick snap! Still only in the 20's and feeling like in the single digits... We need longer times of sunshine to melt this! WARM Hugs!

Love your snow/ice pictures; love the snow, but ice is so treacherous. Always enjoy your bird pictures, Beth!

The birds must be cold, they're all puffed up round like little feathery balls. Glad to see you posting!

Hearing about your weather, Beth, I'm not going to complain about the cold. The trees even look sad. Be very careful and stay warm.

Your photos are gorgeous, but I'm sure it is rather dangerous to be out and about in that! I don't blame you at all for staying in!
