Stiching Report / Weekly Woodpecker Report

I've picked out my next stitching project.  This looks bright and birdish and Eastery.

It's been a pretty good week for woodpeckers.  I heard a Pileated, but did not see it. All the others, I managed to photograph.

I rearranged and changed out some of the feeders in the backyard.

I worried a bit that the woodpeckers would not 'take' to the change, but they have done just fine.
Female Hairy Woodpecker

Male Hairy Woodpecker

I never see the female Acorn Woodpecker in the back.
She's a front of the house girl.

Here she is at one of the peanut feeders in the front of the house.

And here is the male., though he also uses the feeders in the backyard.

The Northern Flickers are equal opportunity proponents.
Backyard - front yard - no worries.

Here's a male.

A female.

Back to female.

And here they are together.

I took lots of photos this week..

The white rump feathers flash as the birds fly away.

They are the original instigators of mixing patterns - polka dots and stripes.

The woodpecker gift this week, was a pair of Red-breasted Sapsuckers.
I could hear the male thumping away, but it took me a bit to figure out where he was.

Ironically, he was enamored with the resonance that the roof of the cat face birdhouse made. That's what I could hear.

I did not manage to get a photo of the two birds together, and as Sapsuckers look identical regardless of their sex, there is not way to tell the male from the female.

The birds were activity courting and chattering away.

I just love their bright red heads.

It was a treat to have them come by.
