An Early April Walk

We've had several mild, rain-free days.
Perfect days to go outside.

The earliest of the trees are blooming...

...and the birds, like this Song Sparrow, are singing.

It's a bit too early for the Trout Lilies / Fawn Lilies...

...but even one plant is a thing of beauty.

I found a Sapsucker on a Maple tree.

The False Solomon's Seal is unfurling.

And these plants will soon be in bloom.

Here's the Small Flowered Trillium (Trillium parviflorum). It's flowers are set flush with the leaves.

The Western Trillium (Trillium Ovatum ) has blooms held high above the leaves on a delicate stem.
The flowers vary from white, to cream, to pink, to burgundy - but are the same species.

Not native, but each year I admire these plums.

The birds love them too - can you see the Kinglet?

Here's a closer look.

Not sure what this - pretty anyway.

I found a large patch of Miner's Lettuce (Montia perfoliata).  It's supposed to be good in salads - no I've never tried it.

More Trilliums

The Hawthorne is beginning to leaf out...

...while the Indian Plum has almost finished blooming.

Spring!  It is beautiful!

Such lovely blooms--nothing in bloom as yet here; a few Robins desultorily pecking about...still pretty chilly. Thanks for the pretty pictures....hugs, Julierose
