Sparrow Celebration

Design - "Sparrow"
Chart - "Prairie Birds"
Designer - The Prairie Schooler
Fabric - 32 count Ocean Kiss Wichelt linen
Fibers - DMC - 2 strands over 3 threads
Started - 5 September 2018
Completed - 15 September 2018

I finished the PS Sparrows - these are House Sparrows which I do not much care for.  They are an invasive species - European birds that were brought here and now threaten our native swallows.

But I do like White-crowned Sparrows.

And I'm glad I'm seeing more of them.

Song Sparrows hang out here all year long.

They begin to sing in February - a most welcome cheerful song.

And while I've said farewell to many of my summer birds, the Fox Sparrows - Winter Regulars - returned on Sunday.

So to them I say - Welcome back!

Your PS Sparrow piece looks great. Welcome back to the Fox Sparrows! I love the coloring of its breast.

Oh I love your little stitch Beth. I never much cared for the House Sparrows either. Actually I really, really disliked them, UNTIL.... we moved here to the apartment. Now...I have have them and purple finches. I can't be picky anymore. Not having a yard at all, only a window ledge, you take what you can get. And I enjoy my little friends every day!!😊

Interesting on the house sparrows. So the sparrows you show in your yard are the non-invasive kinds?? Love your PS finish!

I had no idea how beautiful sparrows could be until I started following your blog!

I will have to pay more attention to the sparrows and try to differentiate different ones. The breast on the Fox sparrow is very pretty. Despite your dislike of the European sparrows the stitch is very sweet.

Such a cute finish! I had no idea there were so many types of sparrows either! They are such tiny delicate little things... too bad the house sparrow is so invasive.
