Lots of jays these days.

In the morning, it's easy to count 12-14 birds.

The Steller's Jays are lovely birds.

Such a dramatic color of blue.

And here's a tidbit for you:
I do not begin to understand the science behind it, but birds that appear to be blue like Blue Jays, Bluebirds, Steller's Jays and others, do not have blue feathers. The color is NOT in the pigment of the feathers.  Instead there are tiny air pockets or keratin particles overlying a dark melanin layer results in blue coloring. The other colors of light are absorbed by the melanin layer, intensifying the color. Wild isn't it?

Love your darling reindeer piece, Beth! I love the pictures of your jays. What a fascinating tidbit of information on the coloring of birds that are blue. Very cool!
