Stitched - late 1980's?

I stitched two pairs of these hotpads as Christmas gifts.
I am guessing late 1980's / early 1990's.

I still think they are kinda' cute.

And now back to Bushtits - our regularly scheduled programming~

About seven Bushtits showed up Wednesday morning.

I was surprised to see them on a peanut feeder.

Usually they are all about suet.

But not this time.

Male

Female

And another male.

Left, right, sideways, and upside down!

Wednesday's Walk

The recent rain has refreshed things.  Let's go take a look.

Bright green licorice moss.

Bit of color.

Oak galls

Someone's summer home

I watched a mixed flock of kinglets and chickadees in the oak trees.  Here's a chickadee.

Mosses and lichens

All the leaves have fallen...

...except for the willows!

The Big Creek

Osier dogwood stems

The beaver dam

Nootka rose hips

Nootka rose leaves!

Oh, it's begun to rain. Time to seek shelter.

Yule and Birds

Design - "Yule: Winter Solstice"

Fabric - 32 count Lambswool linen
Fibers - DMC - 2 strands over 2 threads

Completed - 28 December 2014

I am seeing Red-breasted Nuthatches with some frequency.

They are hanging out at the front of the house.

And even coming to the peanut feeders there.

On Friday a sizeable group of Bushtits showed up.
You can see how small they are compared to the red Christmas lightbulb.

Usually they are all about suet, but are also choosing to eat seed.

And now suet!

They do have an outsized tail!

And sometimes they look rather frowny!

First of Season Bird

Designer - The Prairie Schooler
Fabric - 32 count Lambswool linen
Fibers - DMC - 2 strands over 2 threads
Started - 20 December 2014
Completed - 21 December 2014

Who's that making a short chipping noise and lurking behind the tree?

It's a Yellow-rumped Warbler - a FOS bird for me this fall/winter.

They often will come to a suet feeder or eat Bark Butter.

Maybe this guy will hang around this winter.

The white wing bars, the white eye ring, and the pale throat all help to ID him.

November Trail Camera Photos - The Backyard

November was a bit boring in the backyard.

Mostly it was just deer strolling back and forth.

A doe

Barry the Buck

A fawn

And at least one bear was active throughout the month.

November Trail Camera Photos - Dorothy's Creek

November was quiet.

Just one bobcat sighting.

And some deer.

Bounding

Barry the Buck

And one bear sighting.

Who knows what December will bring.
