One Last Blast of Summer Weather

Design - "Curious Carrot"

Fabric - 40 count Sandstone linen
Fibers - Anchor
Started - 9 August 1998
Completed - 12 August 1998

An oldie - I still test myself once in a while to see if I'm able to since on 40 count linen - it is tiny!

We are going to have one last blast of summer weather with temps in the mid 80s from Monday through Saturday.

The Bushtits are back in force.

Such tiny birds - only the hummingbirds are smaller.

I think there were around 20 in the group.

I was never able to capture that many.

Nine in this photo.

Lovely Day

It's so nice to be able to go outside and breathe clean air and not worry about friends and family having to evacuate and / or loosing their homes.

The Acorn Woodpeckers have been keeping me entertained.

One of the females.

There are two gals. I think she looks like she's wearing a cape or cloak.

Doing the woodpecker-tail-thing.  Using it as a counterbalance.

Here's the male.

He's the most vocal I think...

...and tolerates my presence more than the females do.

Up high!

And here's a female Hairy Woodpecker.

Something spooked her, and she remained frozen on the post for over 15 minutes.

Saturday's Critters

Quiet time around here lately.

I did have a doe with her twins swing by.

Barry Buck came by...

This doe travels about with Barry. I wonder if they are siblings.

There was a bunny amongst many quail.

And lastly, one sighting of a California Ground Squirrel.

Autumn Colors

Many folks in this area are commenting on how many goldfinches there are at their feeders.

I have a good number of birds, but not as many as I had a week or so ago.  Year after year, 'my' goldfinches depart by the end of October and do not reappear until April.

Squash and Acorns

Fabric - 28 count Pearl linen
Floss - DMC - 2 strands over 2 threads

Completed - 17 September 2012

A blast from the past. I do not like to eat summer squash, but I've enjoyed every kind of winter squash that I've ever tried.

The Acorn Woodpeckers have been busy, busy, busy.

As best I can tell they've now got a 2nd granary tree and are storing peanuts as fast as they can.  I've wondered how many flights back and forth from my feeders to the tree they make in a day.

Here's a photo of one of the females (top) and the male below her.
