Here's A Warbler!

Continuing with my Frame a Rabbit theme, several years ago I took in Ewe & Eye & Friend's "Brown Bunny" to be finished.

We decided on a very plain brown frame wit a bit of a metallic finish.

As the sampler is a bit busy, I thought a simple frame would be best.

I think it sets off the piece nicely...and so does the brown bunny.

Migration is marvelous!

The Pacific NW does not have nearly the number of species of warblers that there are in the East and Midwest.

So we celebrate those that we DO have.

This is our most common summer one - an Orange-crowned Warbler.

This series of photos is blurry as I took them through a window (which needs to be cleaned!).

It's been pretty regular morning and evening working away on the suet.

A brighter outdoor photo. The bird spends a lot of time lurking/hiding in the roses.

Here's my best shot.  A nice, colorful bird.

The Jays

First off a Whimsical Heart!

Design - "Whimsical Heart"
Designer - Ewe & Eye & Friends
Fabric - 32 count Thistle Pink Lakeside linen
Fibers - DMC & Anchor - 1 strand over 2 threads
Started - 4 February 2014
Completed - 16 March 2014

I did not want to use DMC 310 (black) to outline the eyelet stitches in the interior of the heart.  I ended up using DMC 3688 which was two shade darker than DMC 3686 which was used to fill in the pink heart.  I think it turned out really well.  The chart also called for some of the flowers to be stitched with a satin stitch.  I did not care the for look, so I cross stitched them instead. It did turn out to be kind of a wild and crazy heart - pretty whimsical after all.

Framed June 2023
And here is is finally framed!

I like how it turned out and look forward to displaying it.

Fabric - 32 count Raw Belfast linen
Fibers - Anchor - 1 strand over 2 threads

I refer to the Towhee as a Halloween Bird.

Why? It's those bright red eyes that do it for me.
Happy Halloween!

A Fledgling?

Design - "Summer Hive" (Black Sheep kit)
Designer - Ewe & Eye & Friends
Fabric - 32 count Cream Graziano
Fibers - DMC
Started - 1 February 2003
Completed - 13 September 2003

This is another framed piece from my Bee Collection.  It first glance it appears pretty straight-forward, but it has several speciality stitches.  The entire skep is made up of "long" stitches rather than cross stitches.  The base has Rhodes and Smyrna stitches.  The center of the sunflower is stitched over one (rather than filled with French Knots).

A female Flicker

A male Downy Woodpecker

It might be a fledging - in that case it could be either male or female.

Same with this "guy". I think it is a newly fledged Flicker.

Summer Favorites

Designer - Ewe & Eye & Friends
Design - "Fat Cat"
Fabric -32 count raw linen
Fibers - DMC - 2 strands over 2 threads
Started -15 September 2014
Completed - 20 September 2014

These guys are among my summer favorites.

Handsome

And a lovely song

They tend to "chip" as they are feeding.

And now the females have arrived.

This one is unusual with a yellow eyebrow.

A white eyebrow is more typical.

The Black-headed Grosbeaks like sunflowers, peanuts, and suet.
Thy are very easy to please.

Now, if only the quail would return.

Who's Around?

Design - "Be Mine Valentine"
Designer - Ewe & Eye & Friends
Fabric - 32 count Flax Belfast linen
Fibers - GAST - 1 strand over 2 threads
Started - 26 February 2013
Completed - 27 February 2013

A funky color for a heart - this used GAST's "Hyacinth".  I like it.

Who's around?

A Cooper's Hawk - that's who.

Also a female Flicker.

Her back feathers appear to have  bit of yellow on some of the tips.
I've not noticed that before.

She's enjoying the tail prop feature on the feeder.

A lone Pine Siskin.
