A little stitch.

With the changing of the seasons, I'm seeing some different birds.

And that includes the Red-breasted Nuthatch.

This guy

Not this guy!

I've had them at both front and back feeders.

Right-side up and upside down!

Busy bird

The striping on the head is striking.

Best photo of the group.

Banana Bird

A little stitch.

A nice gift the other morning.

The bird never called or sang, so if I'd not been looking, I'd not have known it had flown in.

A female Western Tanager.

Or as I say, a Banana Bird!

Bright yellow and about the size of an American Robin.

Always a special treat to see this summer visitor.

I was fortunate as the bird stayed for a bit.

And posed nicely, both front...

...and back profiles.

Thanks so much for stopping by.

Now for some little birds.

They are rather pretty with brown heads and gray bodies.

Black-capped Chickadee

Chattering away.

Young American Goldfinch.

Chestnut-backed Chickadee.

As we head into the weekend, here's a look at some of the birds that have spent part of the week with me.

I think this might be the closest, clearest photo I've ever snapped of a Turkey Vulture.

That red head!

From really big to quite small.

A male American Goldfinch.

I think there are four houses occupied. I'm betting that this one will be the first to hatch and fledge.  Violet-green Swallows.

I think the Chestnut-backed Chickadees have raised their young as they've returned to to the feeders.

The past couple of evenings a small group of Cedar Waxwings has come by.

The light was low, so the photos are no great.

Their facial markings are so distinctive and stylish.

The next evening they came by a bit earlier.

Better light shows off the red 'wax' on the wing and the yellow-tipped tail feathers.

A Flurry of Flickers

I saw a raven last week!  This week there are Flickers - everywhere!

These two guys spent several minutes "woaka-woakaing" and bobbing their heads up and down.

Originally I'd thought it might be a father and son...

...but there was never any wing fluttering or begging.

I think the bird on the right looks to be a bit bigger.

It was interesting to watch them and their 'discussion'.

It ended with both birds flying off in different directions.

This seed cylinder is attractive to both Hairy Woodpeckers...

...and Flickers.

The Flickers are very photogenic.

This shot does a nice job showing off the orange tail feathers.
