Sunday's Hummers

Here's a male Anna's Hummingbird. 

This photo shows the eye's translucent nictitating membrane - it looks like an eyelid, but it is not.  It's used to protect the eyes in flight or when feeding young.

Now the eyes are open. 

He has chosen a perch on the Blue Elderberry.  

It's close to a couple of feeders in the front of the house.

He can rest and guard at the same time.

Small but mighty!

I have a plant on my deck that the hummers like so it has been fun watching them.
