Finally, I was able to get a pretty good mix of the hummingbirds at the feeders.
The male Rufous Hummingbirds are the kings!
They lord over the feeders flashing their tale feathers.
Though they are smaller than the Anna's they are fiercer!
Light is everything when photographing hummingbirds.
Here the feathers shine.
Here the feathers are dull and muted.
One rainy day we had a truce. A female Anna was able to share a drink with a male Rufous...
...in apparent harmony.
More surprising still was the calm that existed as a male Anna and a male Rufous share the feeder.
Normally, if there is a male at the feeder, like this Anna, it is a One Bird Feeder!
Here's a One Bird Feeder with a male Rufous.
I was most pleased though to finally see a couple of female Rufous Hummingbirds. While they have lots of green feathers like the Anna's, their chest is mostly brown making it easy to tell them apart from the female Anna. Now, the gangs are all here - let the courting begin!

Such pretty hummers! Great pictures!
I'm amazed that you could capture them on photos-they're so fast!
A few years ago we had a Rufous that sat and guarded the feeder even when he was not feeding. He just sat there and chased away any other birds.
I do love seeing the hummingbirds! How wonderful that you get to see more than one variety. I'll be putting out my feeder this week. It's probably still a little early, but I've been hearing reports of some sightings.
Yay! They're Baaaacccckkkkk!
