Autumn Hunters

After our first hard frosts Monday and Tuesday, the Anna's Hummingbirds were AWOL and I was worried that they'd left the area.  But then on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday I saw them about once again. They are much quieter now - not chattering and 'humming' as they did before the cold weather hit.

The cold weather has not been a deterrent for the Mighty Hunters!

Saturday morning Tom-Cat was adamant about going On Patrol.
I decided to follow to make sure no one was 'at risk'.
It's a good thing I went along.

First up he flushed out a couple of chipmunks from one of our woodpiles.

Then he strolled down the driveway...

...looking...

...and smelling...

...and managed to miss seeing this bunny alertly frozen at the side of the driveway.

Further on he went...

...then looped back up toward the house once again...

where he managed to flush out a group of Quail.

Meanwhile...

Solomon, aka Fearless Hunter #2...

...proved to be totally enthralled with an earthworm.

Yuck...it's kinda' wet and slimy...

...but I can take it down if needed!

Can you imagine his reaction if by chance he managed to cut the worm? And both pieces wiggled away?? Would have like a shot his face! Entertaining post! Hugs!
