A Woodpecker Short Story

An adult male Hairy Woodpecker happily eating.

And looking...

Because a 2nd Hairy Woodpecker has appeared.

Where'd it go?

Here it is - it's a juvenile Hairy with just a bit of red atop it's head, so maybe it's a female.

Plot twist - A male Flicker comes by.

Back to the juvenile female - she's a bit scraggy...

But she's totally eclipsed by this goofy molting young Steller's Jay with its pinhead!

Sweet August piece! The molting Steller's Jay is adorable. Yay for the Hairy Woodpeckers!

Love your Woodpecker Story. Could you tell us what the small red roof-like structure is to the right of the feeder?
