I have one more Valentine stitch to complete. I am missing a couple of the colors and need to dash to my LNS and get them.
The return of the Rufous Hummingbird was one sign of spring's approach.
This is another sign - the return of the Turkey Vultures.
Some birds are leaving the area. Most mornings now I watch a skein or two of Canada Geese as they fly in business-like formations heading north.
Earlier in the week, I did not have much bird activity.
This little Sharp-shinned Hawk spent most of the day on or near the backyard feeders hoping to snag an easy meal. I wish you could see just how fast and how agile a flyer this small hawk is. He can dart into the smallest spaces low in the brush, or between the trees. No one is safe!

I think I counting something like 50 birds on morning.
Look at that blue sky! We won't see that for a while - the next 10 days or so all have rain or showers in the forecast.

The birds munch of sunflower seeds, but they are also herbivores - see the blade of grass in his mouth?
Both kinds of chickadees are still active.

The Chestnut-backed Chickadee lingers at the feeder far longer than the Blackcapped Chickadees; they fly in, grab a seed, and dart away to safety to consume their meal.

Are you hearing bird song in the mornings? We have done so for the past couple of weeks - it's like the world is waking up.
It is such a pleasure to hear the birds now in the morning. If only I could not hear that rooster!!
The more signs of spring, the better. Great pictures as always!
I think the turkey vultures are here all year long... I have seen them constantly, no matter where I go. The robins are the early birds, and their songs are what wake me now. They started when it was not quite sunrise, but now it will be after the first light. I am seeing less birds now that the weather is warmer. Sad face! But I always have your pictures!! Hugs!
