A Bird Census

Let's start off by showing some more Emma Bridgewater tin boxes!
This time birds.

Since I've been back home, I've seen:

BBBs (Basic Brown Birds as my sister calls them!).
Turkey Vultures
Mourning Doves
Band-tailed Pigeons

California Quail
Steller's Jays

Scrub Jays
Barn Swallows
Lesser Goldfinches

Goldfinches  - a rather tatty molting yellow male...

...and a prettier female perched atop my verbena.

Rufous Hummingbirds

Anna's Hummingbirds

Acorn Woodpeckers

and more Flickers...

..and even a Pileated Woodpecker!

So pleased to see him out and about!

I'll end with my Mystery Bird.
I need to get out the bird books and see if I can identify him.

Love those tins!!! I have never seen the shape of tin you purchased in the UK before -- they're really nice. Love Emma B. :D Love seeing all the birds too! Another thing I'm more aware of now thanks to you.

Speaking of Bird Books, did I tell you I got an Audubon Land Bird Guide book at the thrift store this summer?? It's OLD (1949) but we know that makes it good! Color pictures in the middle of the hard back! I know everyone can get apps on their phone, but it takes forever to find an unknown bird that way...Now I just flip a few pages...I am pleased! Glad you got to see all your 'friends'.

The bird tins are so pretty! You do have a wonderful collection of birds that come to your yard! We take the feeder down so I haven't seen many different birds this summer. I do love my little hummingbird!

So many wonderful birds! I had some small brownish-gray birds in groups around my hostas this summer. Two or three of them would perch on the long hosta flower stem and make it arch to the ground where all of the birds would peck at the flowers. I don't know if they were getting bugs or nectar out of the flowers, but I've never ever seen birds in my hostas like that before.

Thanks for all the great photos. I love seeing the different birds you have from me. If it was my yard, I'd say your mystery bird is a Phoebe.
