This is a great little series. The designer has released the first four months' birds. I love that the little European Robin is surrounds by snow flurries and snowdrops.
Here's a photo of a European Robin I saw in June of 2013 at Sissinghurst.
Robin were ever-present in England - this one was hanging out at the Chelsea Physic Garden in London.
Birds really are a gift from nature. And speaking of gifts, guess who came by Saturday afternoon.
A pair of Western Bluebirds that's who!
Here's the male.
He is a mature bird with all the expected coloring.
My sister was outside weeding a flowerbed and I went out to see how she was doing. The birds were sitting on a couple of the deer fence posts watching her work.
Periodically they'd fly down to the lawn and grab something to eat.
The female is a young bird - she probably fledged last spring as she still does not have all the coloring a mature female bird would.
They stayed close together and the male sang and talked.
And ate! See the neon green worm / caterpillar thing he found in the grass!
A perfect illustration of why I am totally opposed to using chemicals to fill weeds and fertilize the lawn. So many birds use the lawn to feed and as material to build their nests.
So I'm thinking I might need to invest in a bluebird nesting box...
What do you think?

Love Bluebirds we have the Eastern Bluebirds here in Maryland and I have 3 boxes up for them, they usually nest in at least 1 of them. Sometimes we get to hatches per year. Great pictures.
Beth, your Bluebird pictures are gorgeous. I vote yes on the nesting box for them. Your bird stitch looks fabulous. Are these charts available in her Etsy shop? Could you tell me if they are black/white charts or in color? Enjoy your day!
What a sweet finish. Love your bluebird pictures.
What beautiful birds - both real and stitched!
Oh, those bluebirds are so stunning, Beth! I have NEVER seen one in real life and so I loved seeing your beautiful photos.
Love that sweet robin you stitched, too. This sounds like the perfect series for your stitching pleasure this year :)

That is a really cute Bird stitch! And great pictures of the Western Bluebirds visiting you guys! Similar looking to our Eastern ones... I vote yes, get that Bluebird box right now, if you haven't already! Mine has Chickadees in it right now... hey better than being empty!! :) I see Bluebirds around here occasionally... but I don't think they 'live' around here. Sigh... Thanks for sharing! Hugs!
