August Photos - Trail Camera #2

Our second Trail Camera is located at the edge of our backyard.

We ended up with several photos of California Quail.

A couple.

A family.

And bunnies.

Hopping bunnies.

Bunny in the early morning light.

Racoons

And a fox up here as well.

I wonder if it is the same animal we 'captured' on the other trail camera.

The twins at the start of the month.

Deer were omnipresent.

A handsome fellow.

We got better photos of the bob-cat on this camera.

Meow!

The pose of a predator.

On the move in the afternoon!

August Photos - Trail Camera #1

Here are some of the photos from our Trail Camera located down the hill from our house.

Our doe and single fawn were regulars.

The twins also showed up a couple of times.

We had a buck come by.

And here's someone unusual - a fox!

A raccoon family.

All of the bob-cat shots were at night.

These two were the best of the lot.

Our resident bear also came by for a drink.

Sometimes I think they know to look right at the camera.

In fact the bear was such a frequent visitor, he rated a collage.

Coming by mid-day.

And in the early afternoon.  So far he has not come up by the house so my bird feeders remain safe!

Ready for the Long Weekend

Design - "August" - Monthly Markings
Designer - Heart in Hand
Fabric -32 count Dirty Belfast linen
Fibers - WDW & GAST - 2 strands over 2 threads
Started - 25 August 2016
Completed - 26 August 2016

After having seen White Pelicans for the first time this winter, it's pretty cool to have a stitch that features one!

I'm also featuring woodpeckers.

I had a bit more action this past week, including to Hairy Woodpeckers, a male and female, haning out in this tree.

The female was kind enough to come to the feeders a couple of times.

I'm hopeful the male will follow suit.

The Flickers were more visible this week as well.

A male.

A young male I think.

Can you see the faintest of mustaches?

I did spy the Acorn Woodpeckers at work on their granary tree.

The male also finally showed up at the front feeder.

Bring the wife and kids please!

I heard the slow, loud 'thunk, thunk, thunk' of a Pileated Woodpecker at work.

And I found her! This was a good test for my new camera as the bird was quite distant and the light was poor - a mix of sun and shadow.

Here you can see her working away on a typical long rectangular hole.

If it is big and deep enough, it will be a home for someone next spring.

If you have further questions, write a comment or email me and I'll be happy to answer as best I can.

With the start of September, the number of birds and kinds of birds have changed.

I am getting more hawks, more often.
One even took after a Flicker!

I will say they are lovely fliers!

Here's a group of young White-crowned Sparrows with smaller American Goldfinch.

I must have 30-35 American Goldfinches.

They are mad about the shelled sunflower seeds.

And they are rather motley in appearance!

I am starting to see more Cedar Waxwings - that's exciting!

But I rarely see a Black-headed Grosbeak.  Most have left for their winter homes.

Fortunately, I still have jays - Scrub Jays...

...and Steller's Jays.

Here's a one time only photo of the two kinds of jays sharing a drink together.

They do chatter and squawk and are a great Hawk Early Warning System.
