Old Winter Stitch New Spring Birds

It's a boring photo, but I've completed five more of the border panels in Barrick Sampler's "Log Cabin Cat". Pretty soon I'll be able to stitch a cat, and that will be more interesting for all of us.

While not technically a new bird, I have to show off a few photos of my Red-breasted Nuthatches.
I have a pair of Nuthatches that come to my Big Bird Feeder each morning.

I love their funny torpedo-shaped bodies...

...and their ability to walk head first down a large tree.

The Nuthatches co-exist peacefully with the Black-capped Chickadees.

Here's a New Spring Bird.
A Violet-Green Swallow.

I told you that they'd begun to house hunt already!
I've counted as many as eight birds flying and singing - welcome back!

A big welcome back to White-crowned Sparrows.

They will replace my Golden-crowned Sparrows who will soon leave for British Columbia and Alaska to breed.

I've been suffering from severe case of Winter Warbler Neglect.
For some reason this bird caught my eye and I was rewarded with a sighting of a Yellow-rumped Warbler!

Again not technically a New Bird as it is all year, but I hadn't seen Ruby-crowned Kinglet since last winter.

I think he is a darned cute little bird!
All in all a pretty good birding week!

I wanted to share a live streaming video of a Great-horned Owl family. For three years they have raised their family in a planter on a patio. IT takes quite a while to load so be patient. They have a light on the nest at night so you can watch the babies waiting for the parents to return. During the day, everyone is sleeping, though I found the chicks to be restless and active then too.

Gorgeous birds as always.. my favourite this time is the swallow.
Sometimes I like stitching repetitive borders. It's like meditation.

I like the log cabin stitching. And the colors used.
The nuthatches and the kinglets are always so cute to me.

Don't you just love the tiny birds? This year we seem to have bluebirds everywhere...a really good thing! Thx for sharing!

I always enjoy your stitching & bird photos. Thank you for posting the link to the owls. I checked in during the morning here in Norway (night there) and the little guys were getting into a lot of mischief. Very fun to watch. All the best!

Love the variety of birds you get. It's nice to see them and try to identify what makes them them. Have to look at the owl cam now.
