The other day I posted some photos of a female Northern Flicker.
Now it's the male's turn.
He looks very much like the female, but also has bright red cheeks.
Flickers are sociable and often appear in small groups.
I love this photo as you can see just how complex the arrangement of tail feathers is. I counted four different layers and colors of feathers.
I think he knows he is a pretty bird!

A juvenile Flicker.
At present I'd tell you it is a young female bird. She certainly is fat and fluffy. There was an adult bird nearby still keeping watch.
