Male California Quail

Newly fledged Hairy Woodpecker.

All young Hairy Woodpeckers have a spot of red feathers atop their head - it is impossible to tell males for females at this stage of development. 

Male and female Black-headed Grosbeak.

A young male Flicker - ruffled and rumpled looking.

An adult male Flicker - dapper and well-groomed!
