Wednesday's Walk

So far we've escaped the smoke from the large wildfire to the south, so let's take a walk.

Pearly Everlasting (Anaphalis margaritacea)

Ocean Spray (Holodiscus discolor)

Queen Anne's Lace (Daucus carota)

Cascara (Rhamnus purshiana)

Ash

Blackberries

Canada Thistle

Horsetails (Equisetum arvense)

Cedar Waxwing atop a Douglas fir tree

Western Ninebark (Physocarpus)

Douglas Spiraea (Spiraea douglasii)

More photos of Cascara.  The berries are dark purple when ripe.

Lots of birds consume the berries - I'm finding the hard seeds in my birdbaths.

Vine Maple (Acer circinatum)

A vigorous young Cottonwood (Populus) with huge leaves!

This apple tree grows at the edge of my sister's dahlia garden.  It's set more fruit than usual this year.

Lovely nature pictures, Beth! Are those apples for eating/baking or are they for the critters?

What a nice walk. Ever since I was a little girl, Queen Ann's Lace has been a symbol of summer for me.
