I really like this owl's scary glowing yellow eyes.

Speaking of glowing yellow eyes...

The other morning day we had from a large hawk.

I think it might be a Red-tailed Hawk.
Interestingly, it did not appear to be of concern to the birds at my feeders.
When there's a Sharp-shinned Hawk in the area, everyone else disappears.  In this case, activity at my feeders continued unabated.

I still have a group of six of so Band-tailed Pigeons hanging about.  I would think they'd be leaving in the next week or so.

And I had my second sighting of a Ruby-crowned Kinglet.  This bird was one of a small group flitting about in a ticket of young fir, oak, cherry, and ash.

I'm a bit concerned as I've not seen my female Downy Woodpecker in a while.  The male, though is a regular visitor.  Here his is using his tongue to extract the tiny tiny (think grains of salt) seeds of the mullein.

I just remembered that when I was in Myrtle Beach mid-October, at the RESORT--we saw a hawk! It was dusk, and we were taking a walk... and he was NOT very good at landings! The fist one he just made it, but the second trip to another group of trees, he apparently tried to land, missed and tumbled down a few branches! We took pictures but phone pics just don't get that close! I thought of YOU during the expedition! Hugs!
