Merry Christmas!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

Family Christmas Cards from the 1920's and 1930's

The card on the right with the man getting booted out of bed was sent in 1935 by my grandfather's then 11 year old cousin, Joe Caufield.  Some things do not change, and 78 years later this is still the kind of card that would appeal to a 21st century young boy's sense of humor.

Christmas Music On - Check!

My all time favorite albums:
Harry Belafonte, "A Marry Christmas"
Nat King Cole, "The Christmas Song"
Tennessee Ernie Ford, "The Star Carol"
Burl Ives, "Have a Holly, Jolly Christmas"
Barbara Streisand, "A Christmas Album"

These are the albums that most remind my of Christmases as a child.
What do you listen to this time of year?

Now it is Time to Enjoy the Day!

Merry Christmas to you, Beth!

Yesterday someone sent me an e-card and the tune was "O Holy Night" (although that may not be the name of it but I'm sure you know it) and I thought to myself that's my favourite, starts off quiet then is filled with tremendous joy and emotion!

Enjoy your day!

Merry Christmas to you and your family. Love those Christmas albums too. The oldies are the best. I'm a big fan of Elvis' Blue christmas!!

Merry Christmas Beth to you and your family. I do like the Amy Grant album and that is odd for me as I don't listen to country music . I just love her version of Emmanuel.

Hope you had a wonderful Christmas. My favorite album/dvd is the London Festival Choir & London Symphony Brass Ensemble, "An Olde Fashioned Christmas". Personal favorites, no matter what artist, are "The Holly and the Ivy", "Torches", "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen", "Ding, Dong, Merrily on High", "12 Days of Christmas, and, although not strictly Christmas, Handel's "Hallelujah Chorus".

I was late on decorating (and missed some stuff altogether) and whiffed on a bunch of cooking making for the holiday but...........I LISTENED TO SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH CHRISTMAS MUSIC! You have no idea. I listened to the Sirius Holly channel every day, sometimes all day, for, like, the last three weeks. At least. I LOVE CHRISTMAS MUSIC. That channel has all the great standards - Bing Crosby, Ronettes (Sleigh Ride is my ringtone right now), Eartha Kitt, Chuck Berry, Burl Ives, etc. Plus a bunch of classic stuff (to me) from the 80's and a tiny, tiny sprinkling of stuff that's more modern, like Mariah Carey and Kelly Clarkson. Oh my god I love it. Who goes around singing I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas nonstop like a fool? Oh, that would be ME.
