Nesting Update

Here's a nesting update.

Last week the Violet-green Swallows were busy.

Finally it was time to construct a nest.

They love to use dried grasses.

What a mouth-full!

This American Goldfinch female has jumped the gun.

They don't get serious about nesting until June.

She flew off with with this, then dropped it in flight.

I don't often see Red-winged Blackbirds.

Pretty bird with a lovely song.

Some smaller birds...

Red-breasted Nuthatch

Male Lesser Goldfinch

Male American Goldfinch

A pair of Oregon Juncos

Everyone poses - everyone is a model!

This though was another big thrill.

A small flock of Cedar Waxwings flew in.

All mature birds with bright yellow tail feather tips and brilliant red lines on their wings.

And their "hair styles" - feather styles?

Serious looks.

The bird in the middle was calling - see its bill is open.

And here's part of the group again with an American Goldfinch look on.

See the splash of yellow?

See it?

A female Bullock's Oriole - thrilling!

And I continue to see an Evening Grosbeak or two.

Right profile

Showing how that big bill works for cracking seeds.

Straight on

Same for her

She can do the profile thing too.

And she's got a bill to be proud of!
