The border of this stitch reminds me of Indian corn.

We're in for a few cold nights, so the hummers will be wanting nectar first thing in the morning.

I will take in some of the feeders that are distant from the house and put them back out by 7am when it gets light.

I wanted to take more photos, but I have an issue with my camera.  The lens will no longer retract and so I am going to send it in for repair.

I have another 'pocket' camera, the zoom capabilities are modest, so the quality of my photos will change for a while.  Please be patient.

Wednesday is Thursday

I am late with this post.  I did not have any nature photos to share until early Thursday morning.

We had quite a hard frost Wednesday night / Thursday morning.  The temperature dipped to a low of 26f.

Look at this bright red leaf outlined in frost.

The Hawthorn looked like a Christmas card.

It's time for a woodpecker report.

I've had both a little Downy male woodpecker and a female.

The photo is of a female.

The Hairy Woodpeckers have also been active.

I feel as though I've seen a male far more frequently than a female.

The male is quite attractive.

As for the Flickers, it's been a female...

...in the trees...

...and eating suet.

She runs off the Starlings which makes me happy!

Do I give thanks for this guy?

He does serve a purpose.

I've read that a successful hawk, like this Cooper's Hawk, has a 10% kill rate.

This guy uses camouflage to hide while in plain sight. 

Yep, the Brown Creeper returned.

He's most easily seen in silhouette.

The long, curved beak is the secret of his success eating insects in the crevises of the tree bark.

Lots of Towhees out and about.

Sunday Hummers

I still have at least three birds.

An Anna's female.

An adult Anna's male.

And a juvenile Anna's male.

Saturday's Critter

Only one critter to share today, but it's a cutie - a brush rabbit.
