May Trail Camera Photos - Dorothy's Creek

Some interesting happenings down at Dorothy's Creek.

Close up

This doe is blind in one eye

Lots of deer

Kicking up ones heels!

Watch Barry's antlers grow!

I think they're visibly longer 8 days later.

Okay and now the bears - SO MANY BEAR PHOTOS!
Forgive me!

I'm going to subject you to a ten photo series of
these two cubs playing and wrestling - SO CUTE!

Mama Bear says, "BEHAVE!" and leaves them to it.

Backs arched like cats!

I think the cub on the right was the winner.

Okay here's a Daytime Bear!

And I think four minutes later this is ANOTHER bear.

Another day, another bear.

And here are TWO bears!

Yes two bears - plus the sow and her cubs - that's FIVE BEARS!

SMILING BEAR!

Can you see him grinning?

I hope you have something to smile about this weekend.

Flycatcher Friday

Design - "Sewing Bees" - Thimble Holder
Designer - Schoolroom Samplings
Fabric - 28 count natural linen
Fibers - DMC & Needle Necessities - 2 strands over 2 threads
Started - 23 June 2012
Completed - 23 June 2012

Oh look!

Who might that be?

If flycatchers don't 'speak" they are very difficult to ID.

But based on past years, my gut leads me to believe this is a Willow Flycatcher.

The bird was very cooperative.

It stuck around for over ten minutes.

And gave me lots of good looks.
We'll go with Willow Flycatcher.

Sing Out Thursday

Design - "Bee Skep"
Chart - "Budding Littles"
Designer - Hollis Designs
Fabric - 32 count Sandstone linen
Fibers - WDW - 2 strands over 2 threads
Started - 10 June 2012
Completed - 10 June 2012

A sweet little bee skep!

The singing continues!

Dark-eyed Junco (Oregon subspecies)

A Bewick's Wren

Singing and singing

And Singing and Singing!

A male Black-headed Grosbeak

Also singing up a storm.

I've had a lot of fun this spring using Cornell University's birding app - Merlin.
The app is free and assists in IDing birds by sight, with photos, and with sound.
I've been using the sound to help me ID birds and figure out my Dawn Chorus:
Black-throated Gray Warblers, Black-headed Grosbeaks, Robins, Black-capped Chickadees, Steller's Jays, and Western Tanagers.  The sound ID can easily misidentify, so use good judgement before deciding you have a "Rare Bird".  It has helped me tremendously in recognizing some of my summer common singers, and some more obscure birds like a Cassin's Vireo. I encourage you to give it a try.
