Design - "Red-winged Blackbird"
Designer - Bent Creek
Fabric - 28 count R & R Mother Earth linen
Fibers - GAST - 2 strands over 2 threads
Started - 24 June 1998
Completed - 30 June 1998

I worked on this design while on an airplane trip to North Dakota and Minnesota for a family reunion.  The design is so old that the fabric is no longer in production. It was the prefect design to stitch for the trip... there were lots of Red-winged Blackbirds in the marshes and sloughs.

I recently saw another Black bird.

No red on the wings of this large guy.
A raven!

I've had a RAven around for a couple of weeks now.  He is a big bird with a wingspan of close to four feet (46"). Here he is talking to another Raven of in the distance.

The Violet-green Swallows are lighting on the ground to gather dried grasses.

They are busy building nests.

Other birds gather to have a drink or two.
A female Black-headed Grosbeak.

A male Purple Finch.

A Pine Siskin.

A female Purple Finch and female American Goldfinch.

American Goldfinches and a Pine Siskin.

Even my male Hairy Woodpeckers stops by for drink!

Such sweet birds--especially the goldfinches. We seem to have more and more ravens in our yard--they are huge!!

The swallow looks like it has a cape on it's back! That is a cute little design. We have a pond in the neighborhood and I often see red-winged blackbirds.

Another enjoyable post, as always! I had a male American Goldfinch visit this past week. First I have seen in months! Cute stitch by Bent Creek... I also stitched it (made into a little pillow), and it sits on my dresser so I see it when I go to sleep and wake. (along with Happy as a Lark!) Hugs!
