I don't know if you noticed, but I did come up with a motley stitching theme for January - Snowmen, Mittens, Cardinals. I've decided the 'Happy Chirp Chirp Day' bird is a cardinal. So be it!
It's Wednesday and it has been a while since we explored around my neck of the woods...
Off we go...
This photo is my sister's unselfish New Year's gift to the neighborhood.
Notice the pristine verges? She spent over four hours on New Year's Day walking the sides of the road picking up the trash people had tossed out from their vehicles. She cleaned up one mile of roadway - both sides! She collected three bags of glass, aluminum and plastic bottles; and five bags of trash. What an unselfish way to 'celebrate' the New Year.
I followed in her footsteps as she finished up. As the New Year began I was surprised to find lots of red accents on a foggy, gray day.
Apples...
...and Rose Hips...
...and Holly berries.
I did not go unobserved as many small birds like the tangle of wild roses and blackberries.
There were still lots of apples hanging on the trees...red...
and yellow with red blushes.
The wild Rose bushes glowed a pale red on a gray day.
The Hawthorn at the edge of our field was chock-a-block full of berries.
This old Apple edges my sister's Dahlia Garden.
Even the wild Honeysuckle vines are tinged with red this time of year.
As are the canes of the Blackberry vine.
It's pouring buckets -time to come inside!

It's really quite sad that so much rubbish was found on a stretch of road - well done to your sister.
I am also impressed with your sister! I do have a question for you.... the patterns in your blog header - do you sell them when you are done?
I so enjoyed the "red" walk! You must be proud of your sister. It amazes me that people throw trash around!!UG!
Well done to your sister, what a thoughtful gift to your community.
Beautiful. I love taking walks with you.
Amazing the red still around from fall! Your sister deserves big kudos for her selfless act. Maybe we will all be inspired to do something similar.
