Wednesday morning, my mom and I drove up to Ankeny Wildlife Refuge.

Near the end of the raised Boardwalk, in a swampy Ash tree thicket, a group of six or so Long-Eared Owls have been roosting.

With the help of a couple of other Birders, we found one of the owls.

There's always a 50%-50% chance the bird will have its back to you!

But finally!  Success!

One facing us.

See the long ear tufts?

They were SO hard to find!

Do you see the two birds?  One roosting above the other?

Here's a closer look.

It was wonderful to be able to observe them.

Sleep well guys and happy hunting tonight!
