Love the color of this linen.

So here's some random birds I've seen thus far in April.

 

A Tom Turkey strutted his stuff. 

Pretty magnificent.

She was the reason why! Does she look imnpressed?

Random cute Oregon Junco.

Cooper's Hawk

Still hearing and seeing Ruby-crowned Kinglets.

They are usually in the shrubs and brush and move constantly so are a challenge to photograph.

My first of the year sighting of a male American Goldfinch.

April 18th - so far just this one sighting of one bird.

I thought all the Fox Sparrows had left - but then saw this guy interacting with a Golden-crowned Sparrow on the 20th.

I'm sure there will be more changes as April transitions into May.

Woodpecker Round Up

I continue to have decent woodpecker activity.

Lately, there has been just one male Acorn Woodpecker.

It calls and talks, but I have not seen or heard another bird for a couple of weeks now.

I have a pair of little Downy Woodpeckers.

And Flickers - always Flickers.

This is a young male - the red V on the back of his head is indistinct.

Here he is with a female.

Courting has begun!

Sunday's Hummers

A mix of birds this week. 

Female Rufous - brown on the sides

Female Anna's - green and white - no brown

Rufous are generally too argumentatitive to share a feeder.

Saturday's Critters

Several critters...

Lots and lots and lots of chipmunks

That ear - a war wound?

I see a bunny most mornings.

And I still have a couple of daytime bears.

This is a smaller / younger bear.

And this is the other, bigger bear.

So far, it just grazes on grass.

Wonderful Warbler

Migration is often a time of gifts.

I heard this bird and then found it.

It was a Yellow-rump Warbler.

They are one of two winter warblers in the Willamette Valley.

But I do not often see them as they prefer the valley floor and I'm up at around 650' elevation. 

There are two subspecies of Yellow-rump Warblers. 

The most comment one is the Audubon subspecies. 

This bird was exciting as it was the far more rare Myrtle subspecies.

The white throat is indicative of a Myrtle variant.

What else might fly through?
