A male House Finch provided a small pop pf February color.

There were several Chestnut-backed Chickadees in a big leafed maple. 

Buds on the tree foreshadowing spring.

Bright-eyed and bushy-tailed!

Lots of details in a small package.

An Owl Adventure

Wednesday morning, my mom and I drove up to Ankeny Wildlife Refuge.

Near the end of the raised Boardwalk, in a swampy Ash tree thicket, a group of six or so Long-Eared Owls have been roosting.

With the help of a couple of other Birders, we found one of the owls.

There's always a 50%-50% chance the bird will have its back to you!

But finally!  Success!

They were SO hard to find!

It was wonderful to be able to observe them.

Wednesday's Walk

I think we are one of the few places in the country without snow.

 

And the earliest of flowers and bulbs blooming,
