I honestly thought for a moment I saw FOUR birds, but then I only ever saw THREE birds - two males and a female.

These birds are SO much fun to observe.
They chatter constantly and are wonderful fliers - just good fun!

Still Singing

Design - "Bumblebee"
Designer - Country Cottage Needleworks
Fabric - 28 count Lakeside Patina linen
Fibers - Country Cottage - 2 strands over 2 threads
Started - 30 September 2012
Completed - 5 October 2012

Lots to sing about.

The aptly named Song Sparrow.

Singing

I have both House Finches and Purple Finches.
They can be hard to tell apart.
This is a House Finch couple.

This is a Purple Finch couple.
The color on the male is much more saturated and the female has a white eye brow.

Male Purple Finch.
He should be called a Raspberry Finch.

Back to singing.

Black-capped Chickadee

One of the Chickadee parents bring food to nestlings.
No time to sing for this bird!

Sunday's Hummers

So I can't decide...

This is a female Anna's

But this bird...

The light is weird, the bird is puffed up.

Scratching an itch.

The tail feathers look brown...

Is it a Rufous or an Anna's?

This again is for sure an Anna's.

Thanks for reading this edition of Birding Mysteries!

Saturday's Critters

What do we have to share this week?

A chowing down chipmunk.

Look at those cheeks!

Gray Squirrel - in tree

Above a feeder

What's up here? Getting ready for a nap?

Oliver's buttons are growing unevenly.
The one on his left is much longer than the one on his right.

Barry however remains extremely symmetrical!

And handsome.

Some Cool Birds

Design - "Bee Strong" (kit)
Designer - Bent Creek
Fabric -18 count Wichlet Lambwool linen
Fibers - DMC
Started - 21 September 2003
Completed - 20 October 2003

Here are some cool birds!

I don't know why it is that I seem to see a Raven when the light is poor.

So anyway, more of a silhouette than a true photo.

"Nevermore!"

Pretty sure that's what he said.
You can see his 'beard' one of the ways other than size to differentiate a Raven from a Crow.

I've had a couple of Red-Breasted Nuthatches coming to the backyard feeders with some frequency.

But even more exciting was seeing a White-breast Nuthatch!

He too was doing that Nuthatch Thing - a sideways stance.

Thanks for dropping by.  Hope to see you again soon.
