Framed - October 2016

Well it took me only took me 17 years, but I got the Jolly Guy framed!

I continue to have lots of California Quail about.

I need to take a census and see how many are female...

...and how many are male.

I count eight males and eight females here.

Everyone is fat and healthy.

One top knot forward and one top not to tipped to the back on the guys.

Right now they are not the least territorial and find safety as a group.

Come spring that will change.

And the gals will be pestered by the attention of the guys.

Look look!

A female Acorn Woodpecker came by.

For the last several years, it is rare that I see an Acorn Woodpecker in the winter.

They are hanging out more reliably about 1/2 a mile from my house.

So delightful to see her.

I'm hoping for a few more winter visits.

Wednesday's Walk

en to enjoy.

This is perfect weather for the new Licorice ferns to grow.

Aren't they pretty delicate little things?

There's still a bit of color...

...though most trees, like this oak have lost their leaves...

...and are now festooned with mosses.

We've had enough rain that the Big Creek has begun to flow again.

Nootka Rose leaves.

The bright red of Osier Dogwood stems.

Cottonwood.

Raindrops on Douglas fir...

...more of the same.

Droplets on Pine.

Lots of moisture = mushrooms!
