Wednesday's Walk - A Look Outside

Thursday night (12/22) into Friday morning (12/23) we had freezing rain.

And so we woke up to an outdoor skating rink.

I'd topped off all the feeders the night before in anticipation of the weather event.

The hummers, as usual, were the first up and about in the gray early morning.

The Hawthorn branches and berries were ice-covered.

As was this Hazel.

Douglas fir tree

The fountain grew icicles.

The acer looked especially pretty.

The birds came early looking for easy calories.

The weight of the rain / ice flattened a large Daphne.

Valley pine

Do you think her feet are cold sitting on the ice?

Another icy perch.

Fortunately the icing was not extreme, and we sustained no damage.
No one had to drive into work, and we did not lose power.
It could have been much worse.

Ice is so pretty to look at, but so dangerous for electricity/power outages and if one has to go out in it.

As always, seeing your photos gives us a wonderful appreciation of birds and other animals. Are you ever wary of the bobcat?

Your Christmas decor looks absolutely beautiful! You have some wonderful collections. Thank you for taking the time to share it all as it really is enjoyable to see each year. Have a Happy New Year!
