Lots of Golden-crowned Sparrows are out and about.

I've had multiple incursions in the backyard.

The good news is that I was home and stopped them before they could do any real damage.

I wonder if he is laughing at me.

The shepherd's hook and tray feeder are both easily fixed.

I've been hearing owls.  One evening I heard two Great-horned Owls, a Saw Whet Owl, and a Barred Owl all calling at the same time.

Otherwise it has been quiet on the bird front.  The question this time of year is: Will there be an eruption of Pine Siskin this winter like last winter?

Some of the WBU customers had reported seeing them, but I remained skeptical!

The on Saturday morning I heard the iconic "zeeeet" call.

And I found a couple of Pine Siskins.

I got to observe a Pileated Woodpecker Saturday morning.

I heard him fly in and then found him.

He was off a-ways and half hidden by branches.

He spent 10 minutes or so calling and preening.

I watched. 

He then flew to another tree with no branches and I got better looks.

I tend to forget between sightings, but boy, he is a BIG bird!
