Belated May Day

Design - "May Day" (freebie)
Designer - Primitivebettys
Fabric - 32 count dyed Cashel linen
Fibers - DMC - 2 strands over 2 threads
Started - 30 April 2015
Completed - 30 April 2015

Monday morning...

...this Big Leaf Maple was a Warbler hangout.

I tried for some close ups of the Black-throated Gray Warblers, Orange-crowned Warblers, Yellow Warblers and the like - to no avail.

But I got lucky and an Audubon's Yellow-rumpled Warbler popped out.

The photos do not do him justice.

He was in bright breeding plumage.

My second Big Score was this male Western Tanager.

This is the earliest I've ever seen this spring migrant.

I am hoping for lots more visits.

New Yard Bird

Garden Grumbles & Cross Stitch Fumbles May 2019 Blog Header

Row #1:The Prairie Schooler, "Birdsong I", "Rummingbird"; Heartstring Samplery, "American Robin"; The Little Stitcher, "Eastern Bluebird".

Row #2: The Bent Creek, "May Blooms"; The Bent Creek, "Blue Bird", The Bent Creek, "Black-capped Chickadee".

I am having trouble uploading the header to the blog- bear with me.

A warm, sunny spring day!

A little male Downy Woodpecker stopped by.

I was glad to see him.

He hung out on a tree top of a while.

I think the swallows are finally getting serious about nesting.

This male Violet-green perched near a bird house.

And here's a female checking out a possible home.

The big excitement though was this guy - a new Yard Bird for me.

A Red-shouldered Hawk.  Isn't he beautiful?

April Showers Bring May Flowers

April showers have made the world lush and green for or first walk in May.
This field is dotted with buttercups and camas.

Oregon Grape in bloom.

Apple tree - pretty in pink.

Lamb's Tongues (erythronium oregonum).

The common name most folks use is fawn lily, but my family has always called them lamb's tongues.

Look at the big old bumble bee!

Shooting Stars or my family name - Rooster Bills (dodecatheon hendersonii).

Miner's Lettuce (Claytonia perfoliata)

This one's name escapes me - I'll have to research it.

Trillium

False Solomon's Seal (Maianthemum racemosum)

Wild Strawberries

Bitter Cherry in full bloom

Viola glabella - Wood violet.

Oregon Iris (Iris tenax)

Hope you enjoyed  the walk today.
