Black-headed Grosbeaks

Design - "Quaker Bee Sampler"
Designer - Chessie 'n Me
Fabric - 32 count R & R Dye Pot Blend
Fibers - WDW
One Strand over Two Threads & One Strand over One Thread
(Bee Skep - Long Stitch - Two Strands Over Threads)
Started - 31 August 2011
Completed - 8 November 2011

After much cursing muttering the poor decapitated bee on the lower right corner got frogged out and restitched. Ironically, the large blue flower basket (also over one) was stitched easily and error free.  Anyway, I quite like the piece, and have a sense of accomplishment.

A male Black-headed Grosbeak

I feel has those there are fewer than past years.

I need to watch and do a count.

Here's a young one.

Probably newly fledged which is a positive.

I hear the young crow, but have not seen it for a couple of days.

I believe these to be the crow parents.

If they are nearby, that means the young crow is too.

A sweet little bee skep!

An adult male Hairy Woodpecker.

Gobbling food.

At a big tree.

And here's his young one!

Note the red on the head is on the TOP of the head, not on the BACK of the head.

Young males and females BOTH have this red spot.

Design - "Honey Label"
Designer - Cedar Hills
Fabric - 18 count cream Aida
Fibers - DMC - 2 strands over 2 threads

Isn't it interesting how different the same pattern can look when stitched on different fabric?  My mother stitched the above photo several years ago.  She used an 18 count cream Aida.

I had two active Violet-green boxes.

This one hatched first and I've heard loud chirping for a couple of weeks.
Now I think the babies have fledged, as it is quiet.

This box is still got stuff going on.
I can hear chirping and have been watching the parents swoop in and out with food.

Baby Crow

Design - "Honey Label"
Designer - Cedar Hills
Fabric - 28 count natural linen
Fibers - DMC - 2 strands over 2 threads
Started - 9 June 2012
Completed - 9 June 2012

I'll be featuring my mother's take on this stitch tomorrow.

Here it is!

The baby crow fledged on the 20th.

It spent the day on our driveway near the house.

See the pink on it's mouth - that's a sign of a newly fledged baby bird.

It did A LOT of talking.

The parents were nearby - up on the deer fence.

And in our front yard.
Since then, I've heard it yelling at its parents, but have not seen it.
With Ajax outside, it's better to have it a ways away from the house.
