Faith Finish

Design - "Faith 1708"
Designer - The Chartmakers
Fabric - 40 count R & R Autumn Gold linen
Fibers - WDW - 1 strand over 2 threads
Started - 24 September 2013
Completed - 28 September 2013

Another little stitch - very pleasing.  As you can see I changed the date to 2013.

The Turkey Vultures are gathering as they prepare to migrate south.  Tuesday afternoon I counted 12 of them soaring in the air.  I read that 'our' birds fly as far south as Venezuela and Ecuador.  The stories they could tell!

This Sharp-shinned Hawk looks as though it has but one leg.  I can assure you it has two.  I don't know why it was acting like a flamingo.

The Acorn Woodpeckers are becoming 'semi-regular' customers at my peanut feeders.  Can you see how he has grasp the peanut between his tongue and bill?

They certainly have a 'bill that means business" - thick and sturdy.

And I'm pleased, after a very long respite, to see a male Hairy Woodpecker at the peanut feeder.

I've said before that I have a love / hate relationship with mullein. On the one hand it is a horribly aggressive self-seeder.  On the other hand, having some plants near my peanut feeders seems to create the perfect mini-ecosystem for my woodpeckers, and many other small birds like the Chickadees.

Faithful Friday

I'm still head over heels as the recipient of Michelle's generosity.
I never expected when I began blogging a few years ago that I'd get know some of the kindest people on the planet.

This is a terribly shadowy photo, but at least you can see I've been working along on "Faith".  Love all the blues and browns.  I'm thinking of changing the date from 1708 to 2013 as that would make it more meaningful to me. I've got graph paper and a pencil and I'm not afraid to use them!

This week's Bird Report includes an Anna Hummingbird hard at work on Salvia.

A Red-breasted Sapsucker working away on a Douglas Fir tree.

Here's a young Northern Flicker scoping out my peanut feeders.

While this adult male Flicker has it all figure out.

See his tongue sticking out?

And look who's back at the feeder - it's Clown Bird!

No, it's a male Acorn Woodpecker.
Like the squirrels, I've been gathering up a few acorns.  I'm going to set them out later in the Fall and see if these guys will find them and take them back to their granary tree.

I'll finish with one more photo of an Anna Hummingbird.
This is the original shot.

And here's the close up I got when I cropped the photo.
I'm pretty pleased with the clarity and resolution.

Tuesday Tidings

Continuing with my virtuous theme, I thought I'd kit up "Faith 1708".

Monday dawned damp and cold and foggy...

The Scrub Jay's downy feathers were all puffed up.

Papa Quail was all puffed up too.
He also was supervising his flock...

The rest of the group was busy checking out a bunny.

The bunnies and the quail seem to coexist peaceably.

Though I think the bunny looks a bit overwhelmed...

...or is he disgruntled?

"Can't you give a guy a bit of space?"

"Seriously, birds - a little elbow room, huh?"
