Juvenile Starling
The Starlings are back. 3-4 at a time - all youngsters like this one.

The Crow Couple too is at hand.

And finally a Flicker or two has returned.

A lovely female this time.

Here's to a new week and a new season.

Small bear

BIG NUISANCE

BIG TROUBLE

This young bear has started coming by the backyard multiple times during daylight hours.

This was Thursday morning at 8am.

I'd not yet put out the bird feeders.

He did slurp up some bits that had fallen from the hot pepper feeders along the deer fence.

Yes, he found it very hot. He kept sticking out his tongue and munch LOTS of grass in attempt to overcome the capsaicin. I'm going to leave the feeders down for several days and see what happens.

Look at all the insects he's grabbed.

Somebody going to have a good lunch.

Finally!

A documented Warbler sighting!

Warblers are masters at hiding behind leaves and branches.

See!

Ha!  I caught him!

It's a male Wilson's Warbler.

I normally have one on and off for most of the summer.

My Merlin sound app has 'heard' one on and off.

But now I've gotten to see the bright yellow guy.

Random Sightings

Design - "Western Scrub Jay"
Chart - "The Bird Collection" Part 3
Designer - Heartstring Samplery
Fabric - 32 count Wren Picture This Plus linen
Fibers - GAST - 2 strands over 2 threads
Started - 14 September 2017
Completed - 4 October 2017

The 'official' name of this bird changed from the time Beth Twist published her design to the time I stitched it. I charted out the 'new' name California Scrub Jay and that's what I stitched.

Framed - September 2018

Unusual for me, I keep seeing and hearing...

A group of four Purple Martins.

It seems that whenever I see them, the light is not cooperative.

Nonetheless, they continue to fly around and chatter most evenings.

And this guy, solo, continues to come by.
Just one solitary male Acorn Woodpecker.
Where are the others?!

And the two Crows.

They are devouring my suet.
