Flicker Families

Design - "Liberty"
Designer - Lizzie Kate
FAbric - 32 count Light Mocha Belfast linen
Fibers -  GAST & WDW - 2 strands over 2 threads
Started - 9 July 2015
Completed - 10 July 2015

I changed GAST "Oatmeal" to WDW "Whitewash", and also added the red and white star button.  This freebie can be found on Lizzie Kate's website.

I've had as many as four Flickers at a time.

This is a young male bird.

You can clearly see the red strip on the back of his head.

He's watching.

The stripe somehow helps the parent birds target feed the chicks.

Here's a family of three.
The adult bottom left is feeding a young bird bottom right, while another young bird upper right watches.

Here's bird #4 watching the other three.

Back to the trio.

Mom on top.

Two young males below.

A blue sky day.

Bald Eagles

Design - "America"
Designer - The Stitching Parlor
Fabric - 28 count Lambswool Jobelan
Fibers - Crescent Colors - 2 strands over 2 threads
Started - 19 July 2016
Completed - 25 July 2016

Here are my four eagles - they happen to be patriotic ones! This design is very different from anything else that I've stitched this July.

Celebrate the stitch with a few Bald Eagle photos.

A juvenile in my yard back in the day.

An adult flying overhead - again my yard.

And these are the Spencer Butte eagles from several years ago.

They nested in the same place for over a decade.

Magnificent birds!

Mostly Acorns

Design - "Grand Old Flag"
Designer - Heart in Hand
Fabric - 16 count Lambswool Aida
Fibers - WDW
Started - Spring 2010
Completed - 2 July 2010

Stitched by - Barbara (my Mom)

Mostly Acorns - all woodpeckers!

A young Hairy Woodpecker

Young because the red is on top of the head, instead of on the back of the head.

And now some Acorn Woodpeckers.

Female

Female and male

I think she has lighter, bluer eyes while he has red/pink eyes.

What do you think?

Blue eyes would mean she's a young bird - fairly newly fledged.

It would be nice if my Acorn Woodpecker population was growing.

Fledgling

Design - "Star Spangled Summer" (kit)
Designer - Heart in Hand
Fabric - 32 count Natural linen
Fibers - WDW - 2 strands over 2 threads
Started - 2 July 2012
Completed - 4 July 2012

The design called for WDW Twilight.  I thought Twilight was too green and switched to WDW Navy

Remember I mentioned that there were LOTS of young Black-headed Grosbeaks yesterday?

Well I managed to capture a series of photos with an adult feeding a newly fledged bird.

Adult on the left.

Fledgling on the right with wings spread and flittering - begging.

Now the adult is on the upper right and the fledgling on the lower center.

Still fluttering and begging.

Score!  Food!

Such a busy fun time of year.
